Is there a “remote” chance that League Manager, Tournament Manager or Handicap System will run on the Apple iPad? Not directly, but if convenience is what you want, you can run any one of these golf software products remotely from your iPad using available remote desktop access tools. Why is this such an attractive option? Because of its size and weight, the iPad is much easier to take to the golf course than even a laptop…yet it has a large enough screen to make it user friendly.

iPad size and weight specifications (dimensions are rounded to nearest 0.1 inches):

  • Weight: 1.5 pounds
  • Thickness: 0.5 inch
  • Length: 9.6 inches
  • Width: 7.5 inches

Here is what you need to run your golf software remotely using an iPad:

  • Apple iPad with a remote desktop application
  • League Manager, Tournament Manager and/or Handicap System installed on a PC or Mac (with emulation). You leave this computer at home (or else what’s the point!). You will need your home computer booted up and running as well.

Your iPad, depending on the version you purchased, has Wi-Fi and/or 3G mobile phone service connectivity. You will have access to your home computer from the iPad, if your are within Wi-Fi or 3G service range. It might be that the club house at the golf course has Wi-Fi access. Or you may be at a golf outing and your hotel has a Wi-Fi and Internet connectivity in your room. Wi-Fi is a moot point, of course, if you have the 3G version and are within a service area.
